Thanksgiving Night was a great day for ‘The Big Bang Theory’ as it was the most watched program in the series. Jim Parsons was the star of the show as is always the case and the repeat did not put off the viewers who were flocking to CBS to get some family entertainment. Of course there was ‘A Very Gaga Thanksgiving’ which had to give way to the ABC special known as the ‘Charlie Brown Thanksgiving’. This was the night when television channels were airing channels in order to take advantage of the Thanksgiving spike in the number of people who are watching television at any one point. ‘The Big Bang Theory’ is one of those programs that you can watch comfortably regardless of your age. It is the perfect family entertainment and there figures to prove this point. CBS must have been pleased with its decision to air the program when other people were doing their specials. In total they managed to pull in 11.2 million viewers and the rating was 3.6. This was within the target audience range of 18 to 49 years of age.
Finding the right festive television
In Britain the television becomes worse as we get closer to the festive season. There are countless repeats in addition to the perennial Friends series. Eye did not have special programs but it had a great showing with 8.1 million viewers. Their rating was 2.1 in the relevant demographic. Other returns were also making a good impact on the scheduling and ratings. For example Rules of Engagement managed to get a rating of 2.4 with 7.9 million viewers. Person of Interest was given a rating of 1.7 for 8 million viewers while the Mentalist managed to score 1.5 rating points with 7.8 million viewers. The moral of the story is the old favorites are still in favor during the festive season even as we attempt to jazz up the various initiatives in sight. It means that the BBC could learn something from the way that the Alphabet networks in the USA are handling their shows.
ABC took the second position when we consider the total number of viewers. They had 5.4 million coming in with a rating of 1.6. Charlie Brown got in 5.7 million viewers with a rating of 1.8 while Lady Gaga got 5.5 viewers with ratings of 1.6. The ratings war gave Fox a second position with a 1.7 rating and 5.1 million viewers. They were airing “Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas”. Other programs included “Happiness is a Warm Blanket” as well as “The Simpsons”. This comes on the back of research which seems to cheekily suggest that watching Fox tends to make you stupid. The fans would argue otherwise but many people feel that Fox News is a joke. NBC got 3.7 million viewers with a rating of 1.1. At least Fox can lay claim to the fact that it brings in the viewers despite the terrible reputation that they have within the journalistic profession.
