Craig Mundie of Microsoft has said that Siri, the voice recognition software in the iPhone, is not something new because a similar kind of system is present on phones running on Windows for more than a year. Craig said that the Siri feature was marketed widely by Apple so that attention is diverted from the lack of features in the iPhone 4S.
Talking to Forbes, Craig said that the capabilities of Siri are not specific to Apple only and makes point that the “Tellme” technology in Windows Phones is similar and has been well functioning for more than a year now.
Mundie was quoted as saying that Windows 7 phone has been entertaining the Tellme technology since more than a year and said that he thinks people are infatuated with the announcement of Siri by Apple.
Craig however did acknowledge the marketing process of Apple, saying that Microsoft could learn from it, adding further that the maker of the renowned iPhone had to put focus in the voice recognition software since the iPhone 4S was lacking other new features.
Mundie said that a lot of the people were let down by the latest phone of Apple since it wasn’t really something new therefore Apple chose to focus on the Siri feature. Craig said maybe Windows needs to do the same thing; pick up a new feature and hit it hard.
For Microsoft, the transition from the orthodox windows mobile to windows phone hasn’t been easy said Craig Mundie. The Strategy Officer and Chief Research of Microsoft, Craig also said that he along with many others is hoping that the new Windows Phone becomes a big hit in the cellphone market. He also pointed towards the recent partnership between Microsoft and Nokia which is already putting forward fruitful results. Craig is counting on Nokia to make the platform famous.
