In this review, I will talk about the Serious Sam: The Random Encounter, a Role Playing Game for the PC.
With the Serious Sam 3 launch coming closer, a lot of indie companies are making games based on the franchise. This new Serious Sam game focuses on the universe with a little twist. Serious Sam: The Random Encounter turns this First Person Shooter into a 8-bit RPG that seems like a classic JRPG from Nintendo. This is a very interesting take on the game and will please both the fans of the shooter and RPG enthusiasts. To find out more, read our review.
To start my review, I will talk about the design and features of the game.
Players will take on the role of Serious Sam himself, who has been transported in future to take on a massive wave of monsters. Serious Sam will not be alone this time, he tags along 2 other partners to help him destroy hordes of monster. Joining Serious Sam this time will a weird afro Kung Fu guy, kind of like the Afro Samurai and a cowboy. All three of them will face the monsters together in a series of encounters like Final Fantasy games.
Moving further down the review, throughout the game, you will be issuing orders to your team turn by turn. The basic aim of the game is to kill as many monsters as possible before they run you over. Your heroes stand at the right side of the screen, while the horde of monsters attacks from the left. During the issuing command phase, you can select from many different weapons to hunt your opponents, you can also use many items at your disposal. You will be facing a huge horde of monsters each turn, all followed by a huge boss to fight. To successfully win the encounter, you must ensure that you use the best weapon combos to get rid of the monsters as fast as possible.
To finish off my review, I would say that Serious Sam: The Random Encounter is a great new innovative take on the shooter. If you cannot wait for Serious Sam 3, you must pick this game and try it out. The game also brings back a lot of weapons from the original game, so fans of the original will feel at home here.
