In this review, I will talk about Need For Speed: The Run, a racing game for the PlayStation 3.
Need For Speed: The Run, developed by the long running NFS developers, Black Box, comes to us in a traditional form of a NFS game. Before Need For Speed: The Run, we have had excellent other NFS games throughout this year, making this release a little mellow in front of them. Need For Speed: The Run brings a lot of intense racing through different scenarios that include racing in a busy city, snow and other perilous locations. To find out more, read our review.
To start my review, I will talk about the design and features of the game.
The Need For Speed: The Run packs in a lot of action packed racing in a single package, unfortunately, it does not boast the same kind of design elements we have seen in the new NFS games. This feels like an old school racing game especially if you look at the more recent releases in the franchise, it does not give the same taste as these new games. The more recent releases in the series have completely redefined the NFS experience, making it impossible to accept a game that generates an older formula.
Moving further down the review, Need For Speed: The Run is the first NFS game that is story driven with cut scenes and action sequences. One of its best features is the constant changing course, you will never race in the same location or the same kind of race. The game keeps throwing you in races that feel different from each other. The gameplay mechanics are a little out and it feels a little uncomfortable when driving. The Run has one of the finest visuals in NFS games, thanks to the powerful frostbite engine 2. The game does feel a little old, but there are plenty of action oriented sequences that will keep you interested for a while.
To finish off my review, I would like to say that the new Need For Speed: The Run is a good new addition to the series; however its old feel and clunky controls can get in the way. If you are looking for an action packed racing game, The Run is a great choice to pick up.
