A Second Life

Have you ever wondered why things came to be in our life? Here is a story of a boy who had the same questions he pondered in his young mind.

It was summer, the boy had just finished his summer speech class lessons, and was looking for some R and R (Rest and Relax). He was an incoming second-grader, and eight-year old. His father was a businessman – a medical representative. Medical representative are the ones who deliver their products. They are like salesman and delivery men all in one.

One day,his father had to make a delivery somewhere south-east of the city. the boy persuaded his father to let him go with him. The father of course said yes. He packed their things, and then they were off.

The route they were taking would pass through a prominent cemetery. The boy asked his father if he could visit his grandfather’s tomb. So they passed by the grave a prayed for a safe journey.

They were already on their way when disaster came. They were running so fast that his father didn’t notice the truck going north in the intersection. The truck hit them ( hit the boy’s side of the car, the right side, since his father was at the left driving) and the boy passed out. The car spun like a top and hit while jeep parked at the side.

The boy woke up and saw his father pulling him out of the car. His father was bleeding on his upper lip; a shard of the broken side of mirror hit him. Outside, the boy saw their car in wreckage. There were now people investigating. The father asked an old woman if there was a telephone nearby they could use.

His father called his mother on the phone and told her what happened. Minutes later, his mother and his aunt arrived together with an ambulance. His mother saw the wreckage, and she too, couldn’t believe her eyes. She held her son tightly. the boy hugged his mother.

At the hospital, the boy had an X-ray. Surprisingly the findings show no fractured bones, even on his right arm, and no organs injured. After the test, his mother hugged him again and said, “Son, you were given a second life…”

Now here is the weird part. What do you think would have happened if they didn’t visit his grandfather in the cemetery and prayed there? Maybe, the truck would not have hit them for it would have already passed. Another, the car was fast (reason why it spun due to impact). If it was slower, what then would have happened?

We may never know. But for the boy, he was thankful he prayed. For without that prayer, he would not have been given second life. This is a story that we must always remember and continue to tell. And a second life, that we must also continue to live.

This is really one of a miracle that we must praise God. We really never know what will happen on us here but if we have faith in God, nothing is impossible.. God will never leave us.. And this also show the great power of a PRAYER in our lives..

I liked the story very much. It feels like if there is a true belief in GOD then you will be protected and given mercy by him. An incident like this if happened to an atheist will surely convert him to a true believer of GOD. I can see this an example added to the story of Parladh due to which we indians celebrate the festival of Holi.

  3. Srjac says:

Yes If they had not stopped at the graveyard of the grandfather perhaps they would have escaped the accident. But because of their prayer a miracle has indeed been taken place. If this accident had not taken place they would hav e been mechanical in their life. But because of this accident and for the fact that the boy’s bones are safe, not he alone but all them have got a second life. That is something has influenced them a lot and their attitude has been changed. They are now different persons for better. They recognize this as a miracle and their faith will transform them.

The story is really terrible and for the good luck of the boy he got the second life. It is not that they wished to visit the boy's grand pa's tomb. It was a misfortune to have that accident and may be the fault of faulty driving. So, we must be careful whenever we are on a kind of bike.

  5. Andria says:

This story tells some of the strange coincidents in life. I don’t know what could have happened if they hadn’t stopped or if the father hadn’t taken the boy with him, maybe nothing or maybe the story would conclude differently. What happened here is a miracle, the fact that the little boy was saved without a scratch after a serious accident like this means that he deserved to live and never lose his faith.

  6. Ram Bansal says:

The accident and saving of the boy’s life has no connection to cemetery visit but only a coincidence. We spread and promote superstitions by believing and publicizing such coincidences as God’s grace or due to blessings of some one. What happens is circumstantial, and we must understand them through logical analysis in order to find the mistakes in the incident and vow never to repeat such mistakes in the future. Every accident is the result of someone’s mistake.

  7. gem says:

It is providence that helped this boy which happens a number of times. The second life that we talk about here will change situations for everyone who is connected with this boy. God has reasons for doing this.

  8. Mark Ryan Salvador says:

That is quite a story, but yet we never know what will happen if they never stopped by the grave of the Grandfather and pray. The speeding truck might hit somebody else or worst there could have been a more drastic accident that will befall to them. We never know how God works with all the mystery, I am just happy that nothing happened to the boy. Such a pure soul should always be away from harm.

  9. Edna Reyes says:

This true story only proves the power of prayers. Prayers can move mountain and so much more save lives. God is always with us and never forsake those who calls on Him. The boy has a strong faith in God and his faith saved him and gave him a second life to live in God’s grace . As we journey this life we have we must be aware that all is just a snap away and everything is gone is a matter of seconds. Those who are given a second life must conttinue to do the life mission God has given them.

  10. Manu says:

This is an extremely thought provoking story. We often think that if this particular work would not have been done this way the consequences would have been different, but the fact is that whatever has happened has happened. If the boy and his father would have regretted their visit to grandfather's tomb it would not have changed anything, but the boy's belief that he got a second life due to his prayer shows how positive and thankful he was. We all should learn to be thankful and positive in such situations because not everyone gets a second chance.

  11. cherdayao says:

Come to think of it, if they did not stopped for awhile to pray, this miracle will not happen. I think that this is somewhat a way into showing that even in our busy lives, we still have to make time to offer a prayer. We need to make time to still look back to those people that has became a part of our lives just like the boy's grandmother that they have visited before the accident happens. Maybe her soul guided them through and fair enough to say that the boy was not permanently injured because he has his grandmother's guidance. It is also safe to say that he is not destined to die for the meantime because there is a plan for him that only God knows whatever it is.

Really inspiring story.i have heard and read about many of these kind of incidents from newspappers.
i have also such experiance in my life.its happend in the last month i was just resting in the terrace of my home.i fell asleep and i fell down from the terrace.my friends came and took me.they all wondered i have not much problem my knees were bleeding, and pain at the shoulder which hited something.it was realy miracle if i slept some inches apart.there is small wall under the ground.and my head will definitely hit it .and i will be no more.
it was realy amazed me.i thank god.
from this i understand something is left for me to do.
the second life is realy a gift because slight changes in our decission.
    something happens for a reason.
thats why in the story the boy want to pray at the tomb.it happend for his second life.
in every peoples life something happens for a reason.

Nice story. Many unknown things that happen to us everyday. Knowingly or unknowingly we come across with things which we might not have thought before. Every day we awake is another life we get. so better we start living every day fullest thinking of it to be the last day of our life.
    cheers.

  14. Anne Sandoval says:

I was close to tears as I was reading how they were hit by that speedy truck and could not help but hate that reckless truck driver. I was moved with compassion while reading the part when the father was pulling the boy out of the car while he himself was bleeding on his upper lip. I myself was hoping the boy could survive. I’m so glad he did! God protected him and this indeed is a gift of a second life.
We can’t really say this could not have happened if they did not spend time in the cemetery because accidents do happen at any one time. We should rather just see the good lessons we can learn from this story. This proves once again that God can do miracle just as how he protected and saved the boy from this accident.. The boy is admirable because he knew he should thank God for this. I am so touched by the fact that he took time to pray.

  15. Emy Adam says:

I'm really touched by this story. This makes me more certain that God DOES exist. We'll never know God's plan beneath us, and what'll accidentally happen to us. And I think it's a great example to show the strength of our prayer. God'll listen to our prayer, and He'll surely bless us and make us feel His greatness.

  16. ROLIVIC M. PEREZ says:

What do you think would have happened if they didn’t visit his grandfather in the cemetery and prayed there?

Frankly, they need not stop by the cemetery to pray. Prior to the journey, they should have done that so that they would have a safe journey throughout their trip.

Maybe, the truck would not have hit them for it would have already passed.

Had they prayed prior to the journey, God will find a way for them to unknowingly let the truck pass their way. The boy could feel he wants to pee for a while, or they may be prompted to take a rest. God has several ways to save them from the incident rather than visit the cemetery.

Another, the car was fast (reason why it spun due to impact). If it was slower, what then would have happened?

Had the car been driven slower, they could have not experienced the impact wrought by the accident. Driving at a moderate speed is safe and smart driving always.

We may never know. But for the boy, he was thankful he prayed.

Just as mentioned, the boy should have been taught to pray after waking up. This is the proper time to thank God for the past protection He gave as he slept, thank God for another life given, and to ask for His protection and guidance for the ensuing new day.

I hope his second life will make him and the family realize how important God's protection and guidance as a new day starts.

  17. Kitija Liepiņa says:

I'm not a very big believer, but I found this story very touching. The fact that little boy got only few scratches is a miracle. Maybe it was just a good luck but maybe he is really blessed to have a second life.
