In this review, I will talk about Cave Story 3D, an adventure action game for the 3DS.
Cave Story 3D is the brain child of Pixel. The game was created to remind gamers how classic games used to be in their 8-bit era. Cave Story 3D will easily remind any long time gamer about how far games have come. It incorporates the same gameplay mechanics that were so popular in the 90s. With its side scrolling platforming, rock solid game mechanics and a lot of stuff to find, Cave Story 3D will bring you back to the NES days. To find out more, read our review.
To start my review, I will talk about the design and features of the game.
Cave Story was first released on the PC as a free download. It immediately captured a lot of love from the community of gamers and than later on went to become paid game available on the download service of Nintendo Wii. The game made its first paid appearance on the WiiWare store for $12 only and later on it was decided that the game would be released in a full retail package on the 3DS. Today, Cave Story is a full retail package on the 3DS with a complete 3D makeover.
Moving further down the review, from its way to 3DS from PC, nothing much has changed for the game. You get to play as the same nameless character in this charming world of Cave Story. The gameplay also pretty much stays the same, which is a great thing. One of the best features that made Cave Story so much loved was its unpredictable story. Often you will be forced to make choices throughout your progression, resulting in the story moving in countless direction. This offers quite a lot of depth to the game and a solid reason to come back and play again.
To finish my review, I would say that Cave Story 3D is a great game, but whether you buy it or not completely depends on if you have already played it or not. Cave Story 3D has absolutely no changes except 3D visual design. If you did not like the 2D visuals of the game, you can get this version in full 3D.
