In this review, I will talk about the SteelSeries 7G, a gaming keyboard from SteelSeries.
SteelSeries 7G is pretty much the same keyboard as 6GV2, the only difference you get is some extra ports preinstalled on the keyboard and the option of a removable wrist rest. It does offer some other features that change your feel about the keyboard, but nothing as special that really makes a huge difference. For all the extra new features, you need to pay an extra $50. Does this really amount fair to the extra features you get? To find out more, read our review.
To start my review, I will talk about the design and features of the keyboard.
The SteelSeries 7G builds upon the foundation of the SteelSeries 6Gv2. You get a Cherry MX Black built keyboard that has a mechanical feel when the keys are pressed. One look at the keyboard and it’s not hard to recognize that this keyboard is specifically designed for gamers. Because of its one single feature, the keyboard may not suit people who also spend a lot of time working on a windows based machine. The keyboard gets rid of the dedicated windows key at the bottom left, which means if you love using the windows shortcuts, you will have to get used to your right hand to perform these tasks.
Moving further down the review, instead of the Windows key, SteelSeries has added a Fn key, which works exactly the same way as any other laptop Fn key works. It allows you to control several other functions which let you stop and play your music, and also adjust the volume of your sound. The difference between the two keyboards is recognizable with the additional ports added on the keyboard. You get 2 extra USB ports right behind the keyboard and alongside these ports, a 3.5 mm jack also sits, allowing you to plug in your favorite headset on the keyboard. The keyboard also includes a removable wrist rest plate, which you can clip on if you feel like being extra comfy.
To finish off my review, I would say that the SteelSeries 7G is a great gaming keyboard, but for those who do more than gaming through their keyboard, it might be a turn off. The extra wrist rest in this model is great for long gaming sessions.
