Mobile Phone Review: Motorola Flipout

October 17, 2011 by: 0

In this review, I will talk about the Motorola Flipout, a smartphone running on the Android Operating System.

The Motorola Flipout, as the name suggests, can be flipped open to reveal a spacious and easy to use QWERTY keyboard. The features on the phone are quite mid ranged but its call quality is superior. The drawbacks of the phone include a very small display that is a bit uncomfortable for touch navigation, also its speakerphone is quite low and distorted when on high volume. The connection speed when connected to a service is also pretty slow and keeps dropping after a few minutes. To find out more, read our review.

To start my review, I will talk about the design and features of the phone.

Its extremely hard to judge a phone by its looks, what really matters is the feature set and how user friendly the phone is. The Motorola Flipout tries hard to create a balance between looks and use, but it quite doesn’t make it happen. When flipped out, the keyboard is a pretty decent deal, especially its quite easy to use. But when it comes to being a smartphone, the feature set isn’t quite capable of giving smooth operating, the small screen is also pretty hard to deal with.

Moving further down the review; the Motorola Flipout ships with a 2.1 inches screen, which way beyond the standard of a smartphone touchscreen. It supports a resolution of 320 x 280, which is quite average for a screen this small, it also makes the screen look a bit pixilated and the results are quite impressive. The small screen size also means that even if you do get seven beautiful home screens to customize, each screen has a very limited space to add icons or widgets on it. Below the display, you get your usual Android navigational buttons.

To finish off my review, I would say that the Motorola Flipout is a not quite a worthy purchase, it lacks the most important part of a smartphone, a touchscreen. If you are okay with small screen sizes, then the Flipout might actually be a really good partner for you, otherwise we highly recommend you get a smartphone with a screen size of at least 2.8 inches.
