Tina Fey and Eva Longoria has became the Highest Paid Actresses on TV

Traditionally TV has been seen as the poor relation to a full Hollywood career. People like Oprah Winfrey changed all those perceptions when their bank balances where examined. Now Eva Longoria and Tina Fey have joined that lucrative tradition as the highest paid actresses on television today. How do they do it? First of all you need to get your name in the papers. Eva achieved this through looking impossibly beautiful and demure. Tina had great help from that most comical of politicians Sarah Palin. The impersonations have become so famous that the public is actually attributing things to Palin which she never said. It started off as a means of demonizing a politician who is roundly hated on the Left but it ended up being a lucrative business which has given Fey a new lease of life in her television career.

Both actresses earned $13 million from May 2010 to May 2011.The IRS will probably be very interested in their accounts. Tina was the star of 30 Rock with her impressions and quick wit. Eva was one of the Desperate Housewives. Other leaders on the board were Marcia Cross from Desperate Housewives, Mariska Hargitay from Law & Order and Marg Helgenberger from CSI. They tied for the second spot at $10 million. It is a great pay packet for people who are keeping homes entertained throughout the day and night.  In terms of shows, the Desperate Housewives cast dominated the high earner’s list. Teri Hatcher and Felicity Huffman were also part of the group coming in on the 5^th position. Clearly Wisteria Lane has something in it for the actresses.

Celebrity women who are changing the face of television

Courteney Cox is known for producing the television show Dirt. She is on the verge of appearing in Cougar Town, a satire on ladies of a certain age. Happily for her, she can celebrate being part of that elite group of actresses that have been able to earn more money than just about everybody else. Ellen Pompeo from Grey’s Anatomy was also part of the posy. Julianna Marguiles had a stint in ER and actually won an Emmy for The Good Wife. She completed the top ten listings. Why these women are paid copious amounts of money; it all comes from the ratings and advertizing. Companies are always looking for opportunities to be associated with the best brands. Desperate Housewives is one of those programs that were threatening to cut across generations. Beautifully written, it captured the struggles of the suburban set.

A lot of television entertainment is now geared towards women. Feminists have worked hard to ensure that the interests of the ladies were equally promoted within the entertainment industry. However the laws of demand and supply mean that female-orientated programs are selling faster than anything which the men can do. Even the so called leading heroes are cast in that position in order to attract drooling women. It is the formula that will gradually spread into mainstream Hollywood.
