It is the oldest trick in the book when it comes to creating terror within any community and it seems that Dancing with the Stars is not surviving the onslaught. It has been confirmed that they have received a letter that contains white powder. This has left many people wondering what might have been the motive for disrupting an apparently harmless family show. There are plenty of sick people out there but this is really taking it to another level. This is in fact the second envelope that the show is getting with unknown substances. It appears that someone wants to send a really nasty message to the people who are organizing and participating in the show. The CBS Television Network has been speaking to the press about the precautions that have been taken to ensure that people on the premises are not put in harm’s way.

The last two months have been rather frantic for the people who are responsible for the security arrangements within the studio. It might be a hoaxer trying to get attention or it might be someone with an intention to really hurt the people that are attending the show. On Wednesday a letter was received address to the show. The ABC show is filmed at CBS and that might have caused some confusion. A call was fielded to the authorities at around 3pm and they responded to the 7800 block within Beverly Boulevard. The Los Angeles Police Department sent in the hazardous materials unit to investigate but they discovered that it was indeed harmless. Clearly someone wants to create an impression of danger rather than actually harming the people who are working on the premises.

Security measures to protect the celebrities

Just last month Craig Ferguson received a similar letter which was opened in an isolated area. Once again the authorities discovered that that this was not a harmful substance. The damage comes from the time that is spent trying to decipher the meaning of the message and the possible effect on the people who are working on the studios. It can be a very hectic schedule and a menacing letter might mean that everything is shut down for a while. Ferguson took it in his stride with a Twitter joke: “Finally some office drama that isn’t about Craig’s hair! FYI: The hair is hot. Anthrax scares…not so much.” Many people are wondering why someone would continue to address these letters to people who are apparently causing no harm to the public apart from some rather bad dancing.

Understandably the stars will be rather worried about their personal safety even if the information is found to be insignificant. A series of nasty letters might one day carry something that is far more serious. Chemical poisoning or bomb material is often the thing that public places fear most. We are living in a world where international and national terrorism is part of the currency. It would be very foolish to ignore such threats because they have a real impact.
