In this review, I will talk about Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War 2 – Retribution, a Real Time Strategy game for PC.

Retribution marks the third expansion to Dawn of War 2. This is a standalone expansion to the original game and it does not require you to have the original pre installed on your system. The Dawn of War 2 – Retribution attempts to bring some new features to the game, but it fails to introduce anything that is ground breaking. Fans of the series will definitely have something extra to play with, while new players will also feel welcome to the game. To find out more, read our review.

To start of my review, I will talk about the design and features of the game.

Dawn of war series has been mostly about the story of Space Marines, but thankfully, Retribution lets you pick up a race from five other races including the imperial guard, Orks, Chaos, Elders and the Tryannids. You can of course also choose the Space Marines as your race. Though there are a lot of races to play this time with, but unfortunately that also means that the mission design has been significantly reduced to suit each and every race. The missions aren’t interesting anymore, they feel straight forward. The story also doesn’t keep you interested for too long, mainly because there is absolutely no attachment with the characters in this game.

Moving further down the review, Retribution retains the same addictive gameplay formula from the first two games. You still get to make limited forces made out of squads and pit them against enemy squads. This game does not depend on you producing huge number of forces to counter your enemies; instead you are tasked to produce limited forces, but the most effective against your enemies. This kind of gameplay gives you a unique experience over other strategy games in which combat can be easily predicted.

To finish off my review, Retribution is a great new addition to the already very popular and addicting game Dawn of War 2. Fans of the Warhammer 40k franchise should definitely not miss this addition.
