In this review, I will talk about TP – Link W8961ND wireless router for your personal computer.
We recently reviewed the impressive low cost feature rich TP – Link TL-WR1043ND which had 3 antennas on it. The TP – Link W8961ND is a cheaper version of the same router which loses one antenna and some of the extra features. One of the major changes here is the exclusion of Gigabit transfer rate Ethernet. Alongside that, you also lose a USB port for external printer sharing and there is no support for 5GHZ network connectivity. As far as the design goes, you will find virtually everything on it as seen on the previous router from TP – Link. To find out more, read our review.
To start my review, I will talk about the features and design of the router.
The web based interface of the TP – Link W8961ND is still there but not as quite well designed as it was on the WR1043ND. Fortunately enough, all the options which are essential for operation are present here. The installation of the router is also as easy as the previous router; you get a bundled CD with the setup guide which guides you throughout the installation step by step. The reduced cash does not mean you lose performance, the TP – Link W8961ND offers the same kind of performance that is being offered on its expensive sibling.
Moving further down the review, the short range test gave us a transfer rate of 9.3 MBPS, which is quite frankly literally not available in the routers under the same price. As far as the long range goes, the TP – Link W8961ND was a bit disappointing, offering a transfer rate of fewer than 3 MBPS. The two antennas do their job pretty well, so you don’t have to worry about losing any connection.
To finish off my review, I will say that the TP – Link W8961ND does not have all the features of the previous router offered by the company, but still for its price, it offers more than enough, making it a great router.
