While most people wonder if someone they meet online is married, next time Leah Gibbs may wonder if he’s an armed criminal. Gibbs is from Rhondda, South Wales and she met Adam Minton on Facebook. They agreed to go out on a date. Gibbs thought the night would just be the two of them watching a movie at Minton’s house; however, he asked if Gibbs would mind driving him over to see a friends. Gibbs agreed.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that there was a friend. Instead, he directed her to drive to what New Yorkers call an OTB and the English call a betting shop. Minton obviously needed to get a loan, but he went about a little wrong. It seems he threatened all the staff with a butcher knife and then made off with the cash.
He runs out the door and jumps back into Gibbs’ car. He yells at Gibbs to “Go, go, go!” Obviously, he’s seen a couple of bank robbery movies at some time or another.
According to the Daily Mail, Gibbs said this gem of a quote: “I thought I would be ending the night in Adam’s arms.” Who knows what was on her mind as she was speeding away from the crime scene!
It didn’t take long for the duo to be arrested, especially when the license plate number on her car was given to police. Gibbs said that instead of the romantic evening she had in mind, he “landed in the long arms of the law and I was facing jail.”
It took Gibbs a night in the pokey before Minton was able to persuade police that Gibbs was not a participant in the robbery, but instead an innocent bystander that he had met on Facebook. At least he didn’t try to hang Gibbs out to dry. Wonder if there will be a second date?
