Dreaming of some unrealistic scenarios, snoring tuned into the highest volume, and sleeping peacefully, these are the usual and expected picture when we imagine of the wee hours. Wee hours are the time when an average person takes rest in the form of sleeping. It is the time a person regain his energy to condition his body for the next day’s activities, a time to rest the exhausted mind and body.
But aside from these usual early morning scenes, sympathetic ones also exist. The so-called scenes can be viewed in some parts of the Philippines specifically a place where poor people reside. Parents usually wake up before the rooster cocks in order to make a livelihood just to fight poverty. They wake up early so that by the time the sun rises, any items or foods to sell are already arranged in their stalls and for them to have something to spend during the day. Also, being early is necessary to attract more market-goers. In this way, more customers mean more money. More money means greater chance to feed their family’s hunger and even greater chance for them to send their children to school. What if they did not woke up early?
Next, let’s talk about the working students. During day time they are working eagerly whether outside or inside the school campus, solely for financial assistance purposes. And during night time, they sat at their corresponding desks and attentively listens their teachers’ lessons. That’s their routine, at the work place during day time and at the school during night time or vice versa. But, when is the time they study their lessons and make their assignments? Most probably it’s during the wee hours. It’s the time when their eyes are still at their books and notes when supposed to be eyes are closed to sleep. It’s the time when their hands are still busy writing for some assignments and projects when supposed to be those hands are restfully and freely relaxing on the bed. It’s the time when their minds are still boggling remembering their teacher’s lessons and comprehending on a topic they study to pass the next day’s quizzes or examinations, when supposed to be those minds are relaxing and make worry-free through sleeping. They do this because they must catch up and they must pass. Also, they want to achieve something at the future, to make their lives better. What if they’re not awake during the earliest time of the day?
Those buddies that are assigned in the graveyard-shifts like nurses, call center agents and security guards and others must next be recognized. With regard to the nature of their work, they must be awake in the entire duration thereof. In which the duty hours are not usual because we grew up to be awake during day time and sleeping during the night. Just imagine how difficult to change the things we usually are doing. In short, while they are working they must avoid the feeling of drowsiness and eventually to fall asleep. They must be strong to fight the call and pleasure of sleeping in order them to maintain their job. In order for call center agents attend their customer’s call, in order for the nurses to monitor their patient’s condition and in order for the security guards stop thieves. What do you think will happen if they are sleeping during that time?
Sleeping at the right time is really one reason that we must be thankful of because we know how others are deprived of it. They must wake up in order to earn money so that they can attend to their subsequent needs. Just imagine the sacrifice. Imagine first the pleasure of sleeping, the relaxation every time your back touches the bed, your hands and legs were lying freely as your head and face enjoys the soft and cuddly pillow, the feeling of satisfaction and refreshment of an enough time of sleep. This is also the reason why we crave for sleep. Then, imagine these things were deprived from you. How would you feel then?

I've experienced this kind of situation when I was still studying that I need to wake up early to study my lessons and also to do some household chores…
We really sleep comfortably because there are persons working for us to sleep well, our parents feed us, our neighbors wish us well, our empyees/employers organise things to make our live comfortable, our teachers teach us to study and take rest, our gym guide tells us to exercise hard and then take rest. So the sleep we get is not free, its price is being paid by someone on our behalves. We need be thakful to all those who work for making our lives comfortable.
Wow what a topic to discuss, I am not that fortunate person to get sleep in the night because I work for foreign company and the working time of this company is night time for me. So, I have to wake up in the night and work for them. In the morning my body will never adjust to sleep. So, the author of this article rightly said in the end that one has to be thankful for sleeping in the right time. Night shifts is always graveyard shifts but some jobs like nurses, Doctors, drivers of train, pilots, etc have no choice but to work and give services to their clients.
I myself is a registered nurse and I’ve experienced working during wee hours and somehow changed by sleeping time during the day. Well for me it is just compensating because i still have time to sleep though and i’m earning. I just amazed on those working students you’ve just mentioned because they instead of resting they utilize it for studying so that one day when they finish their studies and find a decent job, they can have the rest that they’ve been longing… nice post here buddy.
It seems to me, that sleep is one of the most important things we need to do to be healthy, yet it’s the biggest its the one thing we sacrifice to work or study! This often strikes me as quiet bizarre as to study or work effectively we need sleep. The exact thing happens to new parents. New borns WILL beyond doubt deprive you of sleep. My plan when mine were born was a sort of military mantra “Eat when you can, sleep when you can, because you have no idea when you’ll get to do it again”.
Wow. I can relate to this one. I am a working student, but now — I decided to stop and focus on work online. This article is very true and it really amazes me. Sleep is the most important thing in our lives. We should have the amount of sleep to gain our strength and to have physically and mentally healthy. Without this, our lives are at risk, but there's nothing we could do. Reality bytes, we should work hard and strive for more in order to survive.
As a person who is always studying late at night, I must say this article feels almost touching to me. Not everybody appreciates or even tries to understand how it feels to be working/studying late into the night just to achieve that little extra, be it money or knowledge, to make it in life. It is very demotivating when you're working at hours when people sleep and occasionally one lucky person passes by and starts complaining about how they saw you nodding off.
Waking up really early is a misfortune on your body. It can really take a toll. I am a full time mother and no matter what time my children go to bed at night time I have to wake up at 6:00am every single morning. It can really drain me.
Good night Sleep
Sleep is very important for the human body and sleep has a word to say if you have a good day or not. As such, you do not have to neglect your sleep.
Doctors says that an adult needs 7-8 hours of sleep each day. This limit differs based on age, occupations, physical and physical structure.
It is depends on how much busy you are during the whole day and how many problems you have to solve, you seriously must not neglect your sleep. it is the only moment your muscles relax, cells are recovering, the brains oxygenates. It’s true that you can also sleep 4-5 hours / night, but you will surely feel the effects after a few weeks. It’s better to rest right and start your day fresh then to stay up more so you can work better.
It is very important to realize that sleep means a third of a day. This is why, you need to pay attention to this issue. Do not exhaust your body, let it follow it’s normal cycles. The skin of a 60 years old woman that slept 7-8 hours / night will look better than that of a woman that didn’t.
Create a very relaxing atmosphere in your bedroom. Make sure you don’t have a TV or computer in there. Also, don’t forget about the after noon nap. If you schedule allows it, you need to take advantage of it
Yes!! I'm working hard an studying late. That would make anybody, very moody.( they sure wont be the life of the party) Depriving your self of sleep, might result in "Micro nap's". A state where your mind is in a day dream. I feel like all, the restless nights. Working for you craft, are well worth it.
Sleeping is really important to our health,it is the time where we recharge our body to regain energy for our next activity. I have a son who works as a call center agent and I pity him because he is not having enough time to sleep and I don’t know why he is enjoying it though. Maybe because he’s still young that’s why he doesn’t feel any tiredness with less sleep.__As an online worker, sometimes I feel I need to finish my works first before getting to sleep but knowing the importance of sleep,I am now prioritizing it even if my job online is not yet fully done. My sleep is more precious than my work.
As I am a job holder, I have to wake up early and get ready for my office. I am not that fortunate person to get sleep in the night because I work for office and the working time of office is day time. Sleep is very important for the human body and if you sleep well then all day goes a good day and fresh that time. As such, you do not have to neglect your sleep. We really sleep comfortably because there are persons working for their office and parents. Well, I have experienced working during wee hours and somehow changed by sleeping time during the day when i was student but now i have to work hard so i take a rest in night.
I faced these kinds of situation during my project days and examination time !!
I am also a student.I usually learn at late night and i usually only sleep 5-6 hours a day.I am not aware of sleep is something important.Through this discussion,i think i should review and reconsider my sleep
This article really made me think about things for which I did not ponder over! When I found it and saw the title I thought that it will be just another stupid article about sex or something boring to everybody. But that was not even close to what I predicted!
It is very sad how many people have to be awake at night.
Fact is that sleeping during the wee hours is something so normal such as sun rising that we ignore it and never even think to be thankful for it.
Personally, I prefer to do my duties at night because then I am much more concentrated. But I do have a choice, and these people don't.
Well I'm going to sleep early tonight!
that sleep is one of the most important things we need to do to be happy.Sleep is the most important thing in our lives. It is very important to realize that sleep means a third of a day.we should sleep 7 hours in 24 hours’s day.
I am a hard worker, as a service / technician of my company I have to go around my territory area to make sure that our product is well applicated by customer, there is no probelm of it. Beside this time I also try to spend of my time to open computer, browsing internet, open my facebook account etc. And once I open the internet, usually I forget to do other activity, even at the time I have to go bed. I feel my health is not good enough today then I realize that I don’t spend enough time to take a rest. I try to go bed at the time I have to do it, and thanks for the article
What you said in this article is true. However, you missed one- those who can’t sleep due to sleep disorders such as insomnia. I envy those who can sleep eight hours a day, cause even if I do have sleeping routine, I find myself waking up in these wee hours.
Sleep is a essential for a human body to perform its duties properly. Sad to read about the Philippines poverty, but its common all over world, where everyone fights for bread and butter depriving the valuable sleep. But I would suggest sleeping at least 5 hours is important for any human, for them to achieve the goal and win the life.
The sure thing is without enough sleep we cant be healthy. And as the saying goes "good health is the mother of wealth". We must learn how to balance work and sleep. As for me even when i was a student, if i dont sleep well then i cant do any thing.
Sleeping is the only process where our bodies repair broken tissues. Sleeping time is so important that one can litereally waste himself out of exhaustion if there is the lack of it. As it is so difficult to earn a living, waking up during the wee hours of the night might actually prove to be a healthy practice as long as one gets to sleep early. I think one's ability to sleep in itself is already a blessing. This is why each and everyone of us should always find the time to get enough rest, through sleeping.
When I was younger I watched tv at night and did'nt sleep. I just used to sleep a little in the morning or in the afternoon. I had some problems because of that. My revenue at school was poor and I got sick many times because my imune system was completely unregulated. Now I sleep at night at least 8 hours to be healthy!!
I do not have to imagine being deprived of a full night’s sleep. If I sleep for four hours a night, I consider myself fortunate. Many today must work extra-long hours to support ourselves and our families. This leaves little time for the luxury of sleep.
I have worked at jobs that required me to be awake when I would rather sleep, and I think after a while it is just too hard. I have been a student and studied late as well. Now if I am up too late and missing sleep it is usually because I am online, and that is by choice. There are only so many hours in a day, and some of them should be spent sleeping.
I have been a student, and had to study early and late, and I have had jobs that required me to be up late, or early, or both. Now I am at home so if I miss sleep it is because I am online, either earning or for recreation. I sleep well once I lay down and go to bed.
Yes it is very hard to sleep for some people in this world. But for me I find it very easy to fall asleep. I can sleep no matter what time it is or what time fo the day. The only time I really can not sleep is when I have something on my mind and it is really eating at me like if my boyfriend stays out late. I can not sleep because I wonder where he might be.
You have created a very intersting topic. I, myself, have to be awake during wee hours in order to prepare the things of my kids. And wayback during my high school days, I barely have enough sleep just to finish my school requirements. I'm just glad, I graduated with flying colors, a sweet product os not sleeping with the right number ofhours.
This topis is very interesting for me, but i still wonder what is AOS.
For my self i ussually sleep 7 hours a day from 22:00 PM until 05:00 AM
I have been a student, and had to study early and late, and I have had jobs that required me to be up late, or early, or both.
Now I am at home so if I miss sleep it is because I am online, either earning or for recreation.
I sleep well once I lay down and go to bed.
wOw, a nice topic to discuss. I work up to late night and hence sleep during Wee hours. But still get up by 7 am. Sometimes, I get electricity after midnight, so work thereafter for writing on my blogs or other sites. Thus my wee hours are busy hours, when the public sleeps soundly.
This is an interesting read. When I was younger (even now) my mom would always tell me to get enough sleep. During sleep, people get to rest every part of their body. The energy and body regenerates, thus making the person feel refreshed when they wake up.
There are times when I worked on a graveyard shift for 3 months. I sleep around 8am and go to work around 8pm. It's tiring and took me some time to get used to it. As much as I had problem sleeping with the sun shining outside, I somewhat forced myself to sleep.
It's great that most people have regular sleeping pattern. I feel sorry for those who supper insomnia though
Not only their physical body gets abused, they somewhat also suffers frustration since they WANT to sleep but can't
During the Wee hours man truly rests, sleeps and his worn out energy gets restored. In most of the countries, specially in villages the parents and the Grandparents too rise up earlier that the rooster cocks. It’s a beautiful view to view at the roads and the town markets. People rush out with the baskets on their head loaded with vegetables and flowers and the milk cans and the palm tree liquor jars to sell in the town markets. They race up barefoot to get the things sold as early as possible.
Majority of the students rise up to do their home assignments or they do the revision to excel in the exam. At the military and Police campus we can see the trainees doing the march fast and the physical exercises. We can watch many pilgrims facing the sunrise and doing meditation.
In Hospital wards we can see the hygienic and cleanliness squad cleaning the wards and attending the patients by measuring their body temperature and adjusting their beds with a pleasant smile
In the towns we can see the newspaper distributors distributing the newspaper door to door , the milkman supplying the milk and the baker man distributing the bread, while the birds chirp melodious songs.
While all these activities are exercised with a harmonious rhythm, there are many people of all age groups resting peacefully at the cool and pleasant morning hours.
