According to reports, it was revealed that mobile operating systems which are being developed by top Asian technology firms will steal the market share from Apple iOS and Google Android. Analyst said, that the only way this scenario can be true is if Asian firms including Alibaba group and Baidu Inc are able to attract a large number of application developers.

A technology consultant working with Marbridge Consulting, Mr. Mark Natkin said that the major challenge for Asian firms like Baidu, which is planning to develop their own mobile operating system, is that how they will market and develop an OS which appeals to the users as well as app developers.

In order to grab a certain portion of the ever growing mobile internet market, Alibaba group and China’s Baidu have started their own mobile operating platforms namely Aliyum and Baidu Yi. Currently Alibaba group has its Smartphone available in the market which run on Aliyum, whereas Baidu at present is teaming up with Dell to manufacture its Smartphone based on Yi.

According to facts, China has currently around 900 million mobile phone users. It is the world’s biggest cell phone market. However, according to an estimate, only 10 percent of the population uses mobile internet. Hence there is a great potential for growth in this area.

On the other hand, media reports revealed that HTC Corporation has also shown a great interest in buying a mobile operating system.  Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics is also increasing features available for Smartphone’s operating on Bada, which is its own operating system.

A report states that there are nearly 100,000 Android applications currently available for the Android users while Apple’s App store has around 425,000 applications. On the other hand, Samsung Bada has a limited access to approximately 13,000 applications.

Jennifer li, Baidu’s CEO, while giving an interview to Reuters said that Baidu aims to build a platform which is easy to access. Adding further she said that they want to provide attractive services and superior applications to their consumers.

On the other hand, Alibaba group is all set to hold a conference in which it will explain developers the process of creating apps for its phone. Aliyum, the OS of Alibaba group currently has access to around 30 applications.
