It might be very hard to believe but did you know that Sony was actually the very first brand that was major to start offering e-book readers? Many people forget that because of all the competition that is now out there. When the first Sony was released it actually went over the amount of sales that Amazon Kindle made. Recently Sony has been working hard with trying to get up to date with things and looking at the competitors and seeing what’s all out there before they release their next one.
The 2010 Sony Readers required users to download books from their PC and did not have the Wi-Fi connection unlike some of their competitors. The Wi-Fi connection could have possibly caused Nook to be pushed in the right direction because many enjoy being able to download their books directly from their e-reader and they don’t want to go back and forth from their PC to the e-reader. Later Kindle was released which really caused a lot of competition with Sony as if they didn’t have enough from the other e-readers.
The good news is that Sony is going to be releasing a brand new Reader in October called the Sony Reader Wi-Fi PRS-T1 and when this reader comes out the screen is going to be a touch screen plus it’s going to have Wi-Fi connection so people can get on the net and download books. Another thing to know is that when the new reader becomes available people can pick between three colors being red, white and black. Some of the other competitors don’t have this many colors available with their E-Readers and most tend to be silver, white and black. It’ll be nice seeing a red E-Reader. However, is it going to be worth getting the new Sony Reader just because you can buy it in other colors? Lets look at some of the specs with the new E-Reader and see.
Some of the specs include:
- Price is rumored to be around $149
- Built in Wi-Fi without 3G
- Weighs only 5.93 ounces
- It can read JPEG, BMP, GIF and PNG
- The reader can work with both Mac and the PC
- Battery Life Up To 5 Weeks (Wow!)
- Available in white, black and red
- Six Font Sizes available
- 6 inch clear touch screen that is enhanced
Again, this is just a small amount of the specs that comes with the new reader. I haven’t even mentioned the handwritten and text capabilities plus note capabilities that it has with it. Sony is really trying hard to pick up their act but only time will tell if the reader is going to be a success or if another competitor might jump ahead of them.
