Jason Goldfarb Trades Sensitive Information for $32,500 Leading Him To Prison.
Jason Goldfarb’s case number 10-056 at the New York Sothern District Court has finally reached its conclusion with Jason stated to be guilty of the offence. A lawyer by profession, Jason was involved in leaking some of the most valuable information about the government of United States. He has made huge profits out of selling the cleverly collected facts, leading to plotting and scamming eventually. According to the prosecutors, Jason got his hands on some really important news regarding mergers and takeovers about particular companies.
This was done by winning the confidence of two other lawyers working for the famous Ropes & Gray law firm, which is known mainly for corporate cases. Prior to this case, both Ropes & Gray employees, Arthur Cutillo and Brien Santarlas were declared responsible for fraud leading to a year and a half imprisonment for Cutillo. The news was then transferred to a member of the stock exchange, Zoe Goffer, who paid Jason $32,500 for this stunt. Stock trader, Zoe, is not safe either for he will also be facing a trial in June. Goldfarb, on the other hand, will have to serve a sentence for a two plus year’s time, which is a little indigestible for him as his lawyers demanded no imprisonment period. They were fighting this notion on the base that Jason’s only motive behind convicting the crime was to help his family.
Goldfarb’s family has been going through really rough times with his mother being diagnosed of cancer and father proving to be of no help as his business was falling apart. All this has left Goldfarb with no option but to earn easy money and pull his family out of the situation. As Soshnick puts it, his client was not motivated by greed but by need. Apparently, the prosecutors had been able to trace some of Jason’s phone calls, which provided them the evidence that the crime was done merely for personal motives but they still were not able to send Goldfarb behind the bars for 37-46 months.
