Hackers Attack Blackberry for Helping UK Police

A hacker group attacked Blackberry’s website after the company announced that it would help UK police in investigating riots in UK.

The group Team Poison defaced official Blackberry blog by posting a message that threatened the Canadian firm with reprisal if they handed the encrypted users data to concerned authorities. It is believed that BlackBerry’s IM service have been used by few looters to plan their criminal movements.

BlackBerry has promised to aid police and Home Office “in any possible way”. The post said, “ If you do assist the police by giving them chat logs, GPS locations, customer location and access to people’s BlackBerry Messengers, you will regrets it.”

The post said that hacked database contains names, addresses and phone numbers of employees of RIM would be revealed publicly and “passed onto rioters” if RIM did not abide by. It warned, “Do you really want a bunch of angry youths on your employees doorsteps? Think about it.”

According to Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act in UK police can ask for individual mobile data when the information is related to criminal activity.

Trouble in Britain started in evenings after violence started in north London on last Saturday following a fatal shooting incident. From Tuesday night hundreds of masked youth ravaged through center of Manchester by smashing windows and looting that emerged as worst riot ever seen by Britain.
