While driving, there occur a number of incidents when one tries to pull the brake but is unable to, for the human body does not react as quickly as the mind. This has resulted in a large number of fatal accidents because of which German scientists have come up with a carbon fiber based bicycle that will be operated through brainwaves. This is not an illusion anymore, for Journal of Neural Engineering tells that they were able to detect brain waves that correspond to a driver’s wish to press the brake pedal.
According to Stefan Haufe from Berlin Institute of Technology, waiting for the driver’s response can lead to a slow response in emergency situations. Therefore, it would be better to detect a driver’s intention to brake rather than wait for him to actually take an action. A hundred percent decrease in accidents would obviously not be the ultimate result but some improvement will definitely take place. A similar program has been taken up by Prius Projects and will be sponsored by world known Parlee bike makers and Toyota. A first of its kind bicycle with gears controlled directly through mind has been designed. The Japanese car manufacturer will ensure that the customers get the best product in the most economical price by making the manufacturing cost effective. The high tech bike will surely be a hit with an array of aerodynamic design qualities. The biker will be able to shift the gears with the help of a neuron helmet.
The special helmet is equipped with electrodes to detect brain activity to transmit signals to the gear shifter fixed under the seat. But initially the cyclist will have to train his ride to obey his mind. This guidance can be done through an iPhone application in which a cube remains in motion until the technology matches it with neurotransmission. As soon as the association is picked up by the cycle, its gears will be change as per mind activity. The designers are of the opinion that every common man will be able to pick the simple technique, in fact master it.
