Two years after the release of the Windows 7 Operating System, Microsoft announced that they sold 400 million Windows 7 licenses. The numbers were revealed during the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference by the CEO of Microsoft, Steve Ballmer.

And since the Windows 7 operating systems seams to do a very good job, the veteran Windows XP is getting ready to share the same fate as Internet Explorer 6.

According to some sources, Microsoft announced on one of their business blogs that the operating system released 10 years ago, Windows Xp, has 1000 days until retirement.

“Windows XP did a very good job, but the world has changed in the 10 years since it was released” Erwin Visser said, Windows Commercial Product Marketing Senior Director.

“The time has come to retire Windows XP and to migrate to Windows 7 to benefit from the latest innovations in areas such  as security , performance, and more intuitive and natural interfaces” he also said.

But why Microsoft tells us to migrate to Windows 7 when Windows 8 is scheduled to be released in 2012? The answer is simple: According to a Microsoft representative, ” Windows 7 represents the way to Windows 8″.

In the future, businesses will function on a combination between Windows 8 devices and Windows 7 personal computers.
