When Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is all set to be released by 8th of November this year, Activision has to aface a new problem. A website, namely modernwarfare3.com was found, which is no way linked with the game or the company. And to top it all, the webpage redirects the visitors to the official site of EA’s Battlefield 3, a major competing video game for MW3. As a result, the famed MW3’s owner has lodged a complaint with National Arbitration Forum. Now if you open the same URL, it says Warning: This website is under siege along with a Monty Python’s Life of Brian clip. But the whole act has not bothered Activision much as no other statements have been issued by the company representatives.
According to the owner, modernwarfare3.com does not own any rights of the URL name whatsoever. The site was started in the first quarter of year 2009, while the much awaited game series was named later on. Call of Duty might have to face problems in this scenario if they are unable to prove that the name was registered with Activision before any other entity. To counter this registration claim, an eleven page long complaint was filed on 15th July, which says that the brand was established well before the forged site found its existence. Activision states in its objection that the respondent, URL owner, supports the game Battlefield from the game developer Electronic Arts (EA). It further continues writing that EA is one of Activsion’s principal competitors in the video game industry and Battlefield game competes in the marketplace with its Modern Warfare games and its military themed shooter games in the Call of Duty series.
The upcoming game, which is developed by Infinity Ward, is a first person shooter video game uses unique technology for color blind players. It will run on 60FPS, giving it an edge over FPS games. In order to promote the game, a Call of Duty: Experience event is planned to be held at 2nd and 3rd September in Los Angeles.
