Apps are an integral part of any Smartphone, but recently, it can be easily said that the gaming market on smartphones has also flourished. There are now more games available on market places of different operating systems than they were last year. Many game developers have had problems releasing games on Android because of Google’s strict pricing rules, which don’t allow the developers and publishers to release a promotional app before the full app is launched. Google Android’s rival, Apple iPhone app store has a different approach to this; the app store allows any developer to publish demonstrations of their games before they started charging money for them. This is keeping developers away from releasing games on Android.

Because of Android’s failing pricing methods, more and more third party marketplaces are being made available for the platform. The current Android marketplace also does not allow any developer to charge in game fee if the product has been set free to use. The rest of the third party marketplaces have gotten rid of this, which many developers call ‘annoying’, feature. The Android pricing rules aren’t just annoying; it’s a hell lot of a troubling experience for both the gamers and developers alike. Up till now, no one has been able to figure what the pricing rules actually mean, causing a lot of confusion between users, developers and publishers, encouraging them to release on rival operating systems.

When compared to Apple’s Appstore, Android’s marketplace is really not that well structured for promotional games and applications, that is why most of see several different versions of the same app being released in the marketplace. Analysts believe that Google’s pricing plans are back firing them in terms of total revenue earned through ads.

Other marketplaces like GetJar and Amazon app marketplace have made life easy for both the users and developers alike, allowing them to easily publish their applications on the marketplace in form of full paid application or in promotional content method.
