For those that are tired of feeling all “warm and fuzzy” after playing a cute animal video game, Rise of Nightmares will provide the on-screen violence, brutal combat, and horror you’ve been looking for. The new action horror game for Kinect is anything but cute and cuddly. It’s ready to take you to a place that other Kinect games haven’t been to yet.
The game is set in an old, creepy European mansion, which is a mainstay for horror movies and games today. You and your wife are traveling across the continent by train and are both kidnapped by a mysterious stranger. Taken to the mansion, he wants to practice his horrific experiments on you. The game has a gruesome opener: your eyes open to see a guy sitting across from you. He’s strapped to a chair and is killed in very gory manner right in front of you. You need to escape before you’re next to die. You’ve also got to find your wife she becomes the madman’s next victim.
Rise of Nightmares allows you to move freely in your environment. You simply hold your arm in front of you or move your leg forward. You can shift your shoulders to turn. You can pick up objects that interest you or put up your fists to start engaging in a gory fight. There are various weapons for you to use, including a chainsaw that you can use to dismember zombies and the like.
Sega, the game’s developer, is hoping that this new, gore-filled title to the game platform will help draw a more diverse audience to a gaming platform that is decidedly family friendly at this point. With a bit of luck, the game won’t disappoint and there will be many more mature titles coming soon for the Kinect. The game is due to be released in September.
