A single web site page with two owls set against a dark pink background with the words “Coming soon…” has Harry Potter fans in a frenzy.

Pottermore.com has J.K. Rowling’s signature on it and when you click on either one of the owls, you’re directed to a YouTube chancel featuring the author. There is a video screen there that is counting down the days, hours, minutes, and seconds until Rowling will make an announcement.

In addition to the new website, there’s also a new Twitter account under the name Pottermore. On Friday morning, there were only two tweets. One of those tweets took you to the YouTube channel and the other refers to a Google Maps game that gives you the letters for “POTTERMORE.” Hyperventilating fans around the world are trying to figure out what it all means.

One user on MuggleNet, which is a Harry Potter fan site said “!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This is like the most exciting thing that’s happened in a really long time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve been freaking out and running around the house screaming!”

Blogs are abuzz with guesses as to what the announcement will be. Possible answers range from a digital comic book to an online game to a virtual Harry Potter encyclopedia.

What it doesn’t mean is a new Harry Potter book. According to The Guardian, a UK newspaper, a spokesman said Thursday, “All we can say is that Pottermore is the name of J.K. Rowling’s new project. It will be announced soon, and it is not a new book.”

On Thursday, Andrew Sims of MuggleNet wrote “I saw a preview of Pottermore recently and can tell you that it is fantastic. I’d say more but I had to make an unbreakable vow concerning its secrecy.”

Whatever the answer will be, it will surely serve as a great promotional effort for the July 15th release of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.”
