A trailer at the end of Microsoft’s E3 press conference revealed the new Halo game for Xbox 360 that will be released in 2012. Unlike the previous Halo games, Halo 4 will be the first release from Microsoft’s internal Halo studio, 343i, and not from Bungie.

The last installment from Bungie was Halo: Reach.

Just hours before the announcement at E3, Microsoft pushed an update on its E3 website saying that Halo 4 is “on its way.” However, that post was quickly taken down. There were other games listed too, such as Kinect Star Wars and Sports 2, and Dance Central.

Halo Waypoint, which is a centralized hub for all the Halo content on Xbox Live is operated by 343i. There is news that 343i is working with Certain Affinity and Saber Interactive for Halo: Reach’s Defiant Map Pack, as well as Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary.

This remake of Halo: Combat Evolved is due out in November and it uses the Halo: Reach engine. It will feature seven classic multiplayer maps, online co-op, and enhanced visuals.

According to Don Mattrick, who is the president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft, the game is the “beginning of a new trilogy.” However, it brings back Master Chief, which is undoubtedly a franchise favorite.

The trailer that was released starts with a view of the mind and nervous system of Master Chief, who quickly bursts out of a pod and directly into space combat.

The Halo: Reach was certainly the biggest game in Microsoft history, with sales of over $200 million in less than 24 hours. Other impressive statistics were released after just one week after the game debuted, such as over 31 million games played and over 4.6 million files downloaded.

There is little that when Halo 4 arrives at the end of 2012, those records will be shattered.

Halo Reach was massively disappointing, only surpassed in its failure by Halo ODST, and fell far short of games like Gears of War or Call of Duty. Halo has lost its impact and the only reason I buy the games now is to check up on the story. As soon as I have beaten it, I sell the game back and buy a game that's more playable.
