A charity e-book is out on Twitter by a user in the hope of helping Japan to recover from the devastating March earthquake and Tsunami. The e-book done in three days is based on the materials gathered from around the world.
The e-book “2:46: Aftershocks: Stories from the Japan Earthquake”, contributed by Yoko Ono and cult sci-fi author William Gibson, was available for download within a month and also raised $25000 for Japan Red Cross in the first two weeks.
A printed version is also expected and that too in different languages like Japanese, Dutch and German, as well as a bilingual Japanese-English version.
All this happened only because of Twitter. Lots of money was raised and the event also got recorded. He wanted to help the millions of devastated people and this was the idea that he could think of. First he sent a tweet asking people from Japan and abroad to share their stories, impressions, pictures or art related to the earthquake. Whatever he got within 48 hours formed the basis of the book.
He got contributions from people who were in the disaster zone, journalists covering the story, relatives of those who were hit by the quake and also others from outside Japan. Over 200 writers, editors, designers and translators from all over the world were ready to help.
