CDC Publishes Official Zombie Apocalypse Survival Guide

No, you didn’t read that title wrong. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has just published the official Zombie Apocalypse Survival Guide. Perhaps they thought that the if the rapture didn’t happen on Saturday as promised, we’d need to know how to defend ourselves against an attack by the undead.

The blog featuring the Survival Guide can be found on the CDC’s website. It’s written by Dr. Ali Kahn, who usually has between 1,000 and 3,000 hits a week. This last week, though, Dr. Kahn’s blog had over 963,000 page views by Friday.

According to Dr. Kahn, the hope is that you’ll learn a thing or two while you’re ready through the Zombie Apocalypse Survival Guide about how to survive in a real emergency. The following is part of the blog entry by Dr. Kahn that was posted on the CDC website last Monday:

“There are all kinds of emergencies out there that we can prepare for. Take a zombie apocalypse for example. That’s right, I said z-o-m-b-i-e a-p-o-c-a-l-y-p-s-e. You may laugh now, but when it happens you’ll be happy you read this, and hey, maybe you’ll even learn a thing or two about how to prepare for a real emergency.”

Perhaps the best part of the blog is the comments left by visitors. Clearly, though, the official stamp of approval is on this CDC blog, so perhaps we should pay just a bit of attention. After all, who knows when a zombie inciting virus will wreck its havoc on the earth? Learning what to do in an emergency situation is something that we need to think about. Placing the important things in the context of a pop culture threat may mean that some people remember the details a bit better.

Actually, I would imagine it would be nice to see just a bit of humor in what must otherwise be a very depressing job. Actually, wouldn’t the CDC be a good target for the zombies, what with their super smart brains and all?
