Every November for the last few years, Activision Blizzard has released a new version of its very popular Call of Duty shooting game. This year will be no different. The gaming news site Kotaku says that the sequel, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare ,3 is scheduled to debut on November 8th. This latest installment comes on the heels of Call of Duty: Black Ops, which was on biggest selling video games o fall time. Its sales have already generated over $1 billion for Activision Blizzard.
Infinity Ward, the studio responsible for the Modern Warfare 3, was disrupted by dispute between the top management at Activision Blizzard and Infinity Ward’s founder. It looks like the series won’t suffer, though, as the next installment will be shipped right on time. Two other studies, Raven Software and Sledgehammer Games, have helped ensure that Modern Warfare 3 is ready to go as planned. The game faces stiff competition from Battlefield 3 from Electronic Arts.
The storyline for Modern Warfare 3 takes place in six cities around the world, including Paris, London, and New York. There are 15 missions, which start with an invasion of Manhattan and ending in Dubai. This installment will wrap up the story that started in the original game, but there are additional characters and storylines.
Spoiler Alert – here’s what the latest rumors report – Modern Warfare 3 takes up where Modern Warfare 2 left off. Vladimir Makarov is on the run and Captain John Price and Soap MacTavish are wounded and in the company of Nikolai, the Russian informant. The three make to a safe house in India, where they are attacked by Makarov’s men and escape via a helicopter.
The game then turns to New York City, where Russia is launching an attack. You take on the role of a Delta Force operative named Frost, who is under the command of Sandman. You have to take out a jamming towers located on the roof of the New York Stock Exchange. Once the New York mission ends, the game thrusts you forward six months and you become a Russian agent whose mission is to protect the president of Russia as he heads off to sign a peace treaty the U.S. The plane the Russian President is on is hijacked by Makarov, who vows to prevent the treaty. Next, you’ll end up in Africa with Price, Soap, and Yuri, searching for Makarov. The group makes its way to Sierra Leone to try to snag chemical weapons from the African militia before they can be delivered to Makarov. The game continues through several more missions and countries, finally culminating in Dubai and the death of Makarov.
As always, these are just rumors at the present time. All is expected to be known at the E3 show in Los Angeles next month.
