An iPad Debut Falls Flat on its Feet

It is with great sadness that we report the suspension of the iPad 2 which was launched by SK Tel. Just one week after the debut, it seems that the online sales are outstripping the supply. They are just not enough to sustain the product. The gadget was the brainchild of the big two in South Korean telecoms marketing. SK Telecom and KT Corp collaborated in order to bring the product to the market. The iPad 2 was one of the jewels in the crown that sits heavily on Apple’s head. The tight supplies meant that it was inevitable that the product would be put offline for some time until the chain was back in line.

Tremendous success makes the iPad a potential banana skin

By consensus it seems that the iPad 2 is a victim of its success. The market was so hungry for the product that the suppliers were simply overwhelmed. It also reeks of poor planning. Did they really think that the product would not be popular? Who was responsible for positioning the supply chain? All these are questions that might be exercising the eminent minds of the marketing executives within the two organizations. It is almost certain that KT Corp and SK Telecom are not happy about the idea of having to turn lucrative customers away.

At the moment the companies are not revealing the sales figures so it is very difficult to accurately gauge the capacity. Nevertheless we can look at the figures that were released by iPad. It was estimated that 5 million units were sold in the March quarter and yet the estimates had claimed that it would be six million. Another reasonable explanation is that the problems in Japan had created a shortage of critical components for the gadget. This makes sense since the supply has abruptly fallen. It seems rather silly to hide the fact when everyone knows that Japan is going through a hard time at this moment in time.

Sales of the iPad started in the USA and then the move to the East was launched in earnest. Some of the companies that were included in the publicity drive were Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and Korea. There are eight additional countries that are testing the gadget. The sales are quite healthy and it is a testament to the work that Apple has put into the design of the gadgets. Voice traffic revenue is not doing very well at the moment and there is an expectation that the smartphones and tablets will cover the income gap.

More investment by SK Telecom

In a related development, the SK Telecom Company announced that it was investing $2.2 billion in data explosion. It seems that they are banking on the popularity of the smartphones to bring in the money when the sales start to take shape. This is not a bad bet if you consider how well the iPad 2 has been received. Even communities that are outside the bubble of capitalist America are enjoying the gadget
