India announced that they will ban the XXX tld, which is an action that seams to anticipate many reactions of this type, once the xxx tld is going to become available this summer.
According to Economic Times, the Indian authorities made this decision in compliance with the country’s laws.
“India, along with other countries from the Middle East and Indonesia has been against the approval of the xxx tld, and by extension we are going to block the entire tld because it’s against the Indian laws” the representatives of the Indian Government said.
The representatives of the adult industry feared such censorship, and they are saying that if a website hosted on the xxx tld would have the name as another website hosted on another tld, then the countries that do not want to provide access to pornographic content should ban both sites, on both tlds.
ICANN approved the .XXX tld at the beginning of this month.
The new Tld was approved in order to offer a space where adult content can be better managed.
ICANN’s decision caused many critics from religious and conservator groups, that are saying that the XXX tld legalizes the internet pornographic content, which will be more easy to find, especially by children.

Personally, I think the .XXX TLD should be required for adult websites and all other TLDs should not be allowed for adult sites. Contrary to what the right wing nut jobs think, having all adult content on .xxx domains could be very beneficial from a parental controls stand point. Instead of having to block a bunch of websites with a bunch of different TLDs which is difficult and time consuming, not to mention far from perfect, just block the entire .xxx TLD. Instant no-porn internet. Countries should not do this, but parents could choose to if the .XXX domain was required of adult websites. When you have to block websites from several different TLDs, you can never get them all.
