The South Korean company Samsung will release, next month, a portable player which will be capable of rendering music, videos and will be able to connect to the internet. This is an attempt of Samsung to complete with iPod, which is a similar device to what Samsung has in mind.
The device, named “Galaxy Player” will run on the Google Android platform and will have a video camera in the front which will allow videochat. According to Nam Ki Yung, the spokesman of the company, the player will be released on the South Korean market in January.
Samsung has tried to compete with Apple this year by releasing some products under the Galaxy brand. The first product that was released was the Samsung Galaxy S, iPhone rival, followed by the Galaxy Tab tablet, who competes with the iPad tablet from Apple. ” Galaxy Player will be in direct competition with iPod Touch from Apple and will help Samsung attract more users with a brand that made a name for itself with the release of Galaxy S” says Kin Chanf Yeul, analyst of the Mirae Asset Security private equity group.
