Novell, one of the most important Linux-Suse distribution companies accepted an offer from Attachmate for 2.2 billion dollars after 8 months of negotiations, according to Bloomberg.

Novell will also sell copyright rights to a group formed by Microsoft and other technology companies for 450 million dollars. In November 2006, Novell and Microsoft signed a partnership that stated that Linux applications could be used on computers that had Windows installed.

Novell started to search a strategic alternative including the sell, after they rejected an offer of 2 billion dollars from Elliot Associates.

Novell’s revenue have been decreasing in the last 8 trimesters and the company, who competes with Oracle and BMC Software announced that the 2009 crisis affected their sales.

The transaction is going to be finalized in the first trimester of the next tear and Novell shareholders will receive 6,10 dollars per share, a statement of Attachmate says, a software company owned by investment funds like Golden Gate Capital.

The offered price is 9,1%  over the Novell stock quotation when the market closed on November 19.
