In May 2009, 3D Realms announced that they are shutting down their gates and they are stopping the development of Duke Nukem Forever. Even if they “worked” 12 years on this game, they didn’t managed to release it yet. After more than 1 year, they come forward again with some good news for the fans of the series.
Gearbox Software has taken over the works done already by 3D Realms and put pieces back together. They are working on this project since last year. And it appears that the game is going to be released in 2010 for PC, Xbox 360 and Play Station 3.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it is going to be delayed again, for another year. But hey, a year is nothing compared to the 12 we already waited. Anyway, the game can be tested already at PAX, a yearly festival dedicated to games. Most likely we are going to enjoy the 3D Realms version for now, the Gearbox version might be available in a few months.. at least.
