We already know that the N8 model will be the last Nokia N series phone that will run on Symbian, and after that the top models from Nokia will run on a new operating system, MeeGo. Nokia and Intel have made a short demo of the next operating system.
The first impression after viewing the video and images is that we are going to have a very colorful interface. At least this is the standard theme which, surely, it can be changed or personalized.
Another impression is that some elements are inspired by Android, the operating system from Google. For example, the shortcut bar in the lower part of the screen. The similarities with Android are found again “under the hood”, where the Linux is hid. For this reason, MeeGo will be an open source operating system, thus it can be used and also modified by other developers.
It is still early to figure out what this operating system can do. For the moment, all we can see is a pre-Alpha version that will be the subject of many changes before the official release. What we can tell, however, is that the default browser on MeeGo will be Firefox Mobile.
Anyhow, even from this stage, the first remote impression is not a negative one. We have to see it at work in order to properly review it.
